Ethical Standards

JCME adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for editors, authors, and reviewers regarding:

·         the principles of transparency and good practices developed by COPE,

·         the Good Practices in Review Procedures developed by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

In the event of a suspected violation of ethical principles, the AGH University of Science and Technology Publishing House and the journal editorial teams will follow the procedures described by COPE.

Accordingly, the following obligations have been established for all parties involved in the review process:

I. AUTHORS

• Ensure that all submitted manuscripts are original and authentic and make every effort to ensure that the submitted texts are of a high professional and editorial standard, in accordance with the guidelines posted on the website.

• Ensure that none of the manuscripts have been submitted for review to other scientific journals;

• Cooperate with the editorial office in the review and editing process of the reviewed manuscripts;

• Disclose information about any previous publications of the work, if it is a reprint of all or part of it;

• Disclose information regarding the extent of AI use in the manuscript preparation process (Author Declarations);

• Disclose funding sources for the research whose results are presented in the manuscripts;

• Disclose the full list of manuscript authors. Author composition may not change before, during, or after the publication process.

• Adhere to the principles of transparency in peer review by not reporting co-authors who were not involved in the creation of the work (ghostwriting and guest authorship).

• Do not report co-authors without their knowledge, as this may result in a dispute regarding duplicate submissions by authors or the inability to contact one of the authors to obtain permission for publication, unless this has been regulated by the university in a signed declaration upon publication of the theses.

• Obtain consent to publish other copyrighted elements of the manuscript (e.g., illustrations, photos);

• Disclose information about any potential conflict of interest that may arise during the review and editing process (notify the publisher and the Editorial Team);

• Declare the full originality of their work and that they will not infringe on third-party copyrights.

• Do not publish the name and surname of the reviewer or criticize their opinion, as complaints related to the review should be directed directly to the Editorial Team, maintaining confidentiality.

Expressing a willingness to publish an article in the Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering is tantamount to expressing consent to points 1 and 2.

 

II. REVIEWERS

Reviewers of manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering are obligated to:

• Review manuscripts (using a single anonymous review) scrupulously and objectively, in accordance with ethical standards, and avoid any unscientific criticism;

• Strive to enhance the scientific value of the reviewed manuscripts;

• Withdraw from the review process if they do not feel competent in the field in which the article is written or if there is a conflict of interest with the author of the manuscript;

• Inform the editorial office in the event of a violation of ethical standards concerning the reviewed manuscripts, including, in particular, plagiarism and self-plagiarism;

• Observe the confidentiality of information related to the review process. • A reviewer is obligated to follow the COPE guidelines for reviewers, which stipulate, among other things, that they must possess appropriate expert competencies, inform the Editorial Office of any potential conflict of interest, maintain objectivity regarding the reviewed manuscripts, and submit their reviews in a timely manner.

• The reviewer and the journal's editorial office are obligated to follow the COPE guidelines if an author is suspected of fabricating data or having an undisclosed conflict of interest.

• If a reviewer is suspected of misappropriating an author's idea or data, the editorial office undertakes to follow the COPE guidelines according to the general procedure: gathering documentation with evidence, verifying the validity of the suspicions, contacting the reviewer to clarify the situation, investigating the connections between the author and the reviewer (and possibly other individuals requested to review the article), removing the reviewer from the Publisher's and journal's editorial office's database, and notifying the relevant institutions (if appropriate).

• Decisions made during the review process are confidential.

 

III. EDITORS

• Make decisions about the publication of manuscripts based solely on their intellectual content, regardless of the authors' ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender, citizenship, or political views;

• Ensure the proper conduct of the publication process.

• Make decisions about accepting or rejecting materials submitted for publication, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and a high level of substantive content.

• Ensure the integrity of scientific records and editorial standards.

• Oversee compliance with the principles of publication ethics by authors and reviewers.

• Oversee the review process, ensuring impartiality, adherence to deadlines, and prevention of conflicts of interest, ensuring that submitted manuscripts are not misused or made available to third parties.

• Withdraw from the editorial process in the event of a conflict of interest with the author.

• If a reviewer or reader reports an undisclosed conflict of interest, the Editorial Office will follow the procedures described in the COPE flowcharts.

• Select at least two reviewers from outside the author(s)' institutions, including at least one from outside the author(s)' country.

• Maintain complete anonymity during the manuscript review process and not disclose the content of the reviews to third parties;

• Ensure that authors provide all necessary consents and declarations for publication.

• Provide information about the manuscript review process on the website;

• Inform authors of any suggested changes to their manuscripts, excluding layout, grammatical, and typographical errors;

• Pay particular attention to detecting all types of publishing abuse, especially plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, ghostwriting, and guest authorship. In such cases, the Publisher follows a general procedure based on COPE guidelines: contacting the author to clarify the situation, gathering supporting documentation, and notifying the relevant institutions (if necessary).

• The Editorial Office conducts plagiarism verification in two stages:

1.      The Editor-in-Chief and the Editor independently search online for similarities to other articles by title, keywords, and abstract content.

2.      The entire content of the article is analyzed for plagiarism.

• In justified cases, the Editors may withdraw published material, for example, upon detection of self-plagiarism (so-called text recycling), even after the issue has been printed, informing all interested parties.

• Comply with COPE procedures when sharing information about their texts with external editors in the event of suspected misconduct by individuals involved in the publication process, for example, an author publishing the same text in multiple publications or journals.

• Protecting the personal data of individuals registered on the JCME Platform.

• In the case of texts by deceased authors, the Editorial Office, in accordance with COPE recommendations, contacts the person authorized to dispose of the deceased's copyright and determines whether a special note should be made in the article.

• Expanding knowledge about abuses in publishing practices to prevent any irregularities.
