Abstract

The article examines the principles and implementation of digital educational games published by two government institutions – the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) and the Ministry of National Education (MEN). The titles published by these institutions are promoted as modern solutions designed to make school lessons more attractive and encourage students to learn by using a medium that, according to the creators, is preferred by young people. The term ‘gamification’ is commonly used in this context to indicate a radical modification of the existing model of education. However, the author notes that such a modification is not actually taking place, as the games created by these institutions remain in the form of textbook learning, and their creators demonstrate a profound misunderstanding of the medium they are using. Thus, this proves the need for further development and popularisation of game studies research.
