W artykule badam, jak kultury cyfrowe wykorzystują i przekształcają swoje „ruiny” (starsze treści, wcześniejsze wersje, porzucone gry) do tworzenia nowych treści, kontekstów i doświadczeń. Cyfrowe przestrzenie dawniejszych gier funkcjonują jako warstwy kulturowe, które podlegają zarówno zachowaniu, jak i recyklingowi. Główną tezą jest założenie, że cyfrowe ruiny gier funkcjonują w spektrum pomiędzy dwoma biegunami: procesualności, która oznacza ciągłe, lecz zmienne istnienie systemów i danych w aktywnym środowisku gry, oraz niezmienności, która odnosi się do stałego trwania treści jako statycznego artefaktu. W podsumowaniu stwierdzono, że pozostałości po grach tworzą różne formy archeologii kulturowej: od rytualnego porzucenia, przez wspólnotowy palimpsest, aż po łagodną degradację. Ostatecznie omówione ramy mają na celu przyczynienie się do zrozumienia dziedzictwa cyfrowego jako procesu, a nie produktu.
