Artykuł dotyczy zagadnienia narracji na temat współczesnych migracji i jest pokłosiem konferencji naukowej zatytułowanej Nowe migracje, nowe narracje. Współczesne doświadczenie migracji: wzory – strategie – konteksty. W części wstępnej autorki rozpatrują zagadnienie narracji i historię kariery tego pojęcia, które chociaż należy do literaturoznawstwa, odnalazło się w dziedzinie szeroko rozumianych nauk społecznych, w tym socjologii. Praca ukazuje kierunki badań i tematy obecne w literaturze przedmiotu oraz przedstawia możliwości zastosowania narratologii do badań nad migracjami, odnosząc się w tej kwestii głównie do literatury obcej ze względu na znikomą obecność tego tematu w badaniach polskich. W części teoretycznej artykuł odwołuje się do istoty badań migracyjnych narracji, która najogólniej sprowadza się do próby odpowiedzi na pytanie, jak opowiadana jest migracja; ujmując rzecz bardziej szczegółowo: w jaki sposób za pomocą różnych reprezentacji odbywa się produkcja, rozpowszechnianie i wykorzystanie wiedzy dotyczącej procesów i zjawisk migracyjnych. W trzeciej części autorki analizują artykuły stanowiące zawartość tomu, koncentrując się na ich narracyjnych aspektach.
