About the Journal

The JOURNAL OF CASTING & MATERIALS ENGINEERING (JCME) is a peer-reviewed, academic e-periodical devoted to issues in engineering processes and casting materials. The periodical is published as a quarterly in the open access system by the AGH University of  Krakow.

The JCME publishes original research articles, as well as reviews and theoretical articles. The mission of the periodical is to contribute to the development of knowledge and new scientific ideas in the field of engineering processes and casting materials.

In 2019 Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Poland assigned 20 points to "JOURNAL OF CASTING & MATERIALS ENGINEERING”.

JCME is the beneficiary of the "Support for scientific journals” programme founded by Ministry of Science and Higher Education”. of Poland in 2019-2020.

Focus and Scope

The JOURNAL OF CASTING & MATERIALS ENGINEERING (JCME) is a peer-reviewed, academic e-periodical devoted to issues in engineering processes and casting materials. The periodical is published as a quarterly in the open access system by the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.

Peer Review Process

  1. The article is accepted by the Editors, and transferred to the Editor in charge of the case.
  2. A minimum of two independent Reviewers (including one not affiliated with institution represented by the Author or Authors) are appointed.
  3. The Reviewer is notified by e-mail of the invitation to review the article. The title and an abstract of the article are included as an attachment. Data regarding the identity of the Author(s) is not provided. 
  4. The Reviewer logs onto the JCME platform.
  5. The Reviewer is obliged to reply to the invitation to review within 7 days of receipt. The Reviewer should not accept the invitation if there is any reason to suspect a conflict of interests, or personal and/or professional ties with the Author(s).
  6. Upon agreeing to conduct the review, the Reviewer receives the full text of the publication including data regarding the Author(s), and conducts the review on-line (by completing a form).
  7. The review process takes place in form a single-blind peer-review, and the details of the Reviewers are not made public.
  8. The Reviewer, as a specialist in the field in question, retains full independence of opinion, and demonstrates an absence of conflict of interest and personal or professional ties to the Author(s) of the publication (by completing the relevant declarations).
  9. The Reviewers are given a specified time to complete the review by the Editors.
  10. The Author(s) are obliged to respond to any comments made by the Reviewers, and return the corrected article to JCME on-line by the deadline set by the Editors.
  11. If the article requires extensive changes, the corrected article undergoes the review process once again.
  12. Articles are proofread for correct usage of language by a native speaker of English.
  13. On condition that at least two of the reviews are positive (based on the assessments in the on-line review forms), the article is qualified for further stages of the publication procedure.
  14. In disputed cases, the Editors reserve the right to appoint additional Reviewers.
  15. The Editors publishes an annual list of Reviewers who have collaborated with the journal in a given year on the JCME website. 

Open Access Policy

Copyright policy & self-archiving policy.

The rights are reserved under Polish and International Copyright Regulations. The Editors of the journal prefer to publish the original and unpublished materials, both in the Internet and hard copy format.

  • Pre-print status: the authors can archive their pre-print papers on their personal web sites, however, the published source must be acknowledged.
  • Post-print status: the authors can archive their post-print articles acknowledging the publisher copyright and source, and linking to the published version or providing the exact bibliographic information. The published contents is accessible on a non-profit server, and the publisher’s version (PDF) may be used.

Publication ethics and publication malpractice statement

As the editing team, the Editing Board and the Scientific Board aim at maintaing the highest quality of the scientific papers published in „Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering”, they make sure that all the intellectual rights are observed and the reliability of the content of the papers published in the journal is maintained in accordance with the ethical standards established by the Commitee on Publication Ethics (COPE) at all stages of the reviewing process. These standards determine the final and unquestionable rules of the reviewing process and editing of the manuscripts. The editing team, the Editing Board and the Scientific Board of „Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering” declare that compliance with the rules is not influenced by any relations with the sphere of business.

In accordance with the above, the following duties of all parties engaged in the reviewing process have been established:

I DUTIES OF REVIEWERS

The reviewers of the manuscripts submitted to „Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering” are obliged to:

  1. Review (single-blind peer-review) the manuscripts in a meticulous and objective way according to the ethical standards and avoid all non-scientific criticism;
  2. Endeavour to improve the scientific value of the reviewed manuscripts;
  3. Withdraw from the reviewing process if they do not feel competent in the field the article is written in or there is a conflict of interests with the author of the manuscript;
  4. Inform the editors in case of breach of ethical standards of the reviewed manuscripts, including mostly plagiarism and autoplagiarism;
  5. Abide by the rules of confidentiality of information connected with the reviewing process.

II DUTIES OF AUTHORS

The authors of the manuscripts submitted for reviewing in „Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering” are obliged to:

  1. Ensure that all submitted manuscripts are original and authentic;
  2. Ensure that all manuscripts have not been submitted for review in other scientific journals;
  3. Cooperate with the editors in the reviewing and editing process of the manuscripts under review;
  4. Disclose information on any previous publishing of the paper, if it is a full or part reprint;
  5. Disclose sources of funding of the research whose results are presented in the manuscripts;
  6. Disclose a complete list of authors of the manuscripts;
  7. Obtain consent for the publication of other copyrighted elements of the manuscript (e.g. illustrations, photos);
  8. Disclose information about a potential conflict of interests which can take place in the reviewing and editing process of the manuscripts;
  9. Expressing the wish to publish a paper in „Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering” is tantamount to agreeing to points 1 and 2.

III DUTIES OF EDITORS

The members of the editing team of „Journal of Casting & Materials Engineering” are obliged to:

  1. Make decisions regarding the publication of the manuscripts only on the basis of their intellectual content, without regard to ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, sex, citizenship and political philosophy of the authors;
  2. Make objective decisions regarding the acceptance of the manuscripts for publishing and notify the authors of the manuscripts together with the justification;
  3. Provide information about the reviewing process of the manuscripts on the webpage;
  4. Maintain full anonymity in the process of reviewing the manuscripts and not disclose the contents of the review to a third party;
  5. Withdraw from the editing process in case of conflicts of interests with the author;

Inform the authors about any suggestions for changes in their manuscripts excluding layout and grammatical and typographic mistakes;

Permission requests for Re-use

Material published in the JCME is subject to all applicable copyright, database protection, and other rights. Therefore, for any publication, whether printed or electronic, permission must be obtained to use material for which the author(s) does not already own the copyright. This material may be, for example, a figure, diagram, table, photo or some other image.

Author reusing their own work published by the JCME

You do not need to request permission to reuse your own figures, diagrams, etc, that were originally published in a JCME publication. However, permission should be requested for use of the whole article or chapter except if reusing it in a thesis. If you are including an article or book chapter published by us in your thesis please ensure that your co-authors are aware of this.

Reuse of material that was published originally by the JCME must be accompanied by the appropriate acknowledgement of the publication. The form of the acknowledgement is dependent on the journal in which it was published originally, as detailed in 'Acknowledgements'.
